Description
Must have some swimming ability and be comfortable around water to participate in this event.
Come join us on a new type of TYHP adventure where aquatic education, kayaking, and fishing will be the primary focus. All participants must have moderate clearance 4x4 vehicle to attend this event or make arrangements with the Huntmaster to carpool. This property is extremely remote with 1.5 hours of rough, very dusty dirt road to get there, with limited to no cell coverage.
Throughout the weekend participants will get to spend time with TPWD biologists learning all about aquatic habitats and fisheries management along the clear waters of the Devils River. We will be rod and reel fishing, fly fishing, snorkeling, and exploring some of the incredible springs. All bass species require catch and release while you may keep a limited number of sunfish or catfish if you choose. Additionally, participants will learn how to kayak the river safely with TPWD Game Wardens.
Weather in Texas is always unpredictable and if a flash flood occurs the potential to be stuck on the ranch for several days until the water recedes is possible. Participants will be asked to bring their own kayaks or canoes if they have them, if not one will be provided. ALL participants will be required to bring their own fitted life jackets. We don't care if your an Olympic swimmer, life jackets will be worn at all times while in and around the water and if that is an issue this trip is not for you.
We will be camping in screened-in shelters; tent camping is available for those who would like to do so. Camper trailers are not permitted due to limited space. We will have restrooms with running water and toilets. If you have any questions about the event, please email [email protected].
